Have you ever made a great post on Instagram or Facebook and thought, "this is the one everyone is going to respond to"? But, when you post it, you end up with NO responses and a few likes from friends and family?
Listen, I get it, and I've been there. This is the perfect time for you to audit your Instagram and Facebook pages and then delete some stuff. First, let's look at Instagram.
So, everyone knows you have to have engagement, so your post will travel on Instagram. Did you know that engagement isn't just about who responds to your posts, but also about YOUR ENGAGEMENT ON OTHER PEOPLE'S POSTS!!! The more you comment and engage with other people, the more Instagram will share your posts. Commenting on posts not only boosts your engagement, but it's another way to gain organic followers. The key to this strategy is to follow pages with good engagement with your target audience. For example, if you’re a credit consultant, you want to follow a few credit gurus with a larger following, good organic engagement, and not a lot of bots talking. You can also look at a few hashtags and then at those popular posts to find people you can follow. Try these 6 STEPS & see how your engagement increases.
Make sure the ratio of the number of people you’re following is 40-50% less than the number of followers you have! Instagram is all about the numbers game. I know it sounds crazy, but when you delete some pages, you’ll see more traffic to your page. The following few tips will help you understand who you want to follow
Make sure you have a business & personal page! Follow the celebrities/family/friends from your personal page. Also, when you participate in the “follow for follow” threads, follow people from your personal page, but have them follow your business page. The first time I did this, I had my personal page up on my laptop and my business page on my phone, so whenever I deleted a page from my business page, I started following them from my personal page. I even moved my favorite workout and cooking pages to my personal page. One easier way to do this is by sharing the profile on your personal page as you delete them on your business page. Then, go to your personal page inbox and follow the pages from there. This will allow you to do this on one device.
Check each page you’re following to ensure they’re still active, posting consistently & relevant. I checked mine, and so many pages were relevant but haven’t made a post since Dec 2019. Delete those pages that aren’t active.
Follow pages that are relevant to your business or the people you’re targeting. You want to make sure the people you’re following from your business page are relevant because part of the algorithm is your engagement with those you’re following, so you want to make sure you’ll relate to them. Doing this will allow those posts to appear on your timeline then you can respond and show their audience you know what you’re talking about. Those people will then go to your page to learn more about you and follow you. This is a great way to build organic followers that’s interested in what you have to say and will engage with your posts. Try responding to at least 15-20 posts a day for a month, then reassess your numbers.
Archive any content you can recreate & reuse!!! You can recreate some of your older posts as your audience grows or re-share them. This is a great way to be consistent with posting, and it will also allow you to engage more with your new followers. They did start following you for a reason. You can also create reels with some of those old posts, especially since reels are so POPULAR & are being shared more than anything on Instagram.
Evaluate your content to see if it’s time to change up some things, maybe your colors, graphics, or themes. One way to know if your content is what your audience like. Look at other Instagram pages and see what type of content people prefer. Do you notice more people are attracted to posts with videos, maybe quote posts with white backgrounds, or do you need to change your brand colors? I like to tell people to use those guru posts to guide and add their uniqueness.
Bonus: MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A MARKETING & SOCIAL MEDIA PLAN!! Planning keeps you on track with your posting, when, and how it’s connected to the rest of your business. The point of posting on social media is to draw your audience to your service, business, or influencer or affiliate marketing pages. If you’re unclear about your business/marketing goals, you will not see the results you want from social media. With 2023 right around the corner, this is the best time to start working on those plans. Use this FREE “Plan for 2023” Guide for some guidance.
You may not see improvement immediately, but you will see your engagement and followers increase over time. The key is cleaning things up, consistently making posts, and engaging with others.
